Description

The bike specialists, trading standard award winners for the past 12 years. Bike ID: #10237 We have great pleasure of offering for sale our fantastic Yamaha FZR750R OW-01. Yamaha's FZR750R, codenamed OW-01, was a race bike made for the road as opposed to a road bike made for the track.

Only 500 were built of which only 140 of those were officially imported into Britain. Our bike was produced in March 1989 and is number 274 of the 500 that were built. It has covered just 8,490 miles and has had just 3 former keepers since 2014 when it was registered into the UK.

The current owner has had this particular motorcycle in a his private collection since 2021, in December 20025 the bike received a recommissioning service by Superbike Surgery that cost in excess of £1,000. Supplied with the V5, MOT's, Owners Manual and original Tool Kit. The rear cowl is signed by Carl Fogarty and Tony Scott.

This bike would be a superb flagship and addition to any serious motorcycle collection as well as being a great bike to use on those sunny Sunday afternoons. Please do not miss this opportunity to purchase an asset that will only rise in value. We are able to offer full finance options and can arrange delivery UK and Worldwide.

We are a family-owned company who pride ourselves on the quality of our Motorcycles and all of them are carefully chosen, handpicked enthusiast pre-owned examples that are always HPI Clear for your peace of mind. We offer all the usual Motorcycle Dealer facilities such as Low-rate finance and extended warranties and operate a no pressure environment where you can relax and enjoy good old-fashioned service with a smile. We have just upgraded our Indoor Showroom where you can see Motorcycles you sometimes can only dream of seeing and sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves when we get certain bikes in as we would like to keep them all!

We cater for very specialist tastes and can source rare and coveted bikes that we do not have in stock and have lots of contacts throughout the world.

About the Yamaha Fzr750r

The Yamaha FZR750R, often affectionately known by its factory code OW01, is not just a motorcycle; it's a legendary homologation special born for superbike racing. Introduced in 1989, this rare and highly sought-after machine blends race-bred technology with stunning aesthetics, making it a dream for collectors, enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates a true piece of motorcycling history. Its reputation in the UK market is one of exclusivity, immense value, and an analogue riding experience that few modern bikes can replicate.

Why Buy a Used Yamaha FZR750R?

  • Collector's Item: With only around 1,000 units ever produced globally, the FZR750R OW01 is a genuine rarity and a significant investment opportunity, appreciating in value year after year.
  • Race Pedigree: Built specifically to comply with World Superbike homologation rules, it boasts a unique Deltabox frame, advanced suspension, and a high-revving 20-valve Genesis engine, offering an exhilarating ride.
  • Iconic Design: Its distinctive twin headlights, sleek fairing, and single-sided swingarm (on some models/aftermarket) give it an unmistakable presence that stands out from the crowd.
  • Analogue Thrill: Experience pure, unadulterated motorcycling with direct feedback, a visceral engine note, and no electronic rider aids to dilute the connection between rider and machine.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 1989–1990 (Good Condition): £25,000 – £40,000 — For a well-maintained, largely original example suitable for road use or display, representing solid value.
  • 1989–1990 (Exceptional/Concours): £40,000 – £60,000+ — These command premium prices for low-mileage, impeccably restored, or fully original examples with strong provenance.
  • 1989–1990 (Project/Restoration): £15,000 – £25,000 — Entry point for bikes requiring significant mechanical or cosmetic work, offering a chance to restore a legend.

Common Issues to Check

  • Fairing Condition: Original fairings can be brittle with age and very expensive to repair or replace; check for cracks, stress marks, and previous repairs.
  • Engine Originality & History: Verify the engine numbers and check for signs of heavy track use or modifications, as many were raced.
  • Age-Related Rubber Components: Inspect all hoses, seals, and gaskets for perishing or leaks, particularly around the fuel system and suspension.
  • Brake System Integrity: Check for seized calipers, perished brake lines, and worn discs, as these components will be decades old.
  • Suspension Condition: Look for weeping fork seals, corrosion on stanchions, and the condition of the rear shock absorber, which may be due for a rebuild.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: 30-40 mpg (typical for a high-performance 750cc sportbike of this era).
  • Insurance Group: High, often requiring specialist classic motorcycle insurance policies.
  • Servicing: Requires specialist attention; parts can be scarce and costly, particularly for original components and specific engine parts.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • Original Road Spec: Ideal for collectors and purists who value authenticity, appreciating an unmolested, factory-standard machine with genuine road history.
  • Restored Example: Suited for those who want a pristine, show-ready bike without undertaking the restoration themselves, often commanding a higher price for professional work.
  • Track-Day/Race Prepped: If you intend to use the OW01 for track events or display a racing lineage, a bike with documented competition history or appropriate modifications might be a unique choice.
