Description
The bike specialists, trading standard award winners for the past 12 years. Bike ID: #10249 Here we have a once in a life time opportunity to own a very rare 1964 Triumph Bonneville Sport T120C special. The TT special was a factory production racer intended for competition in the US TT steeplechase events and was sold on both the west and east coasts of the USA.
The T120C was only produced in two variants in limited numbers from 1963 to 1965. Our bike is absolutely stunning and in concours condition complete with matching chassis and engine numbers which is authenticated by means of a Triumph owners club certificate confirming its dispatch from the Triumph Meriden factory in January 1964 to its supplying dealer in Baltimore USA. Included in the file of paperwork are numerous invoices including an itemised invoice from SRM Classic Bikes charting the £6500 full mechanical strip and rebuild.
This bike starts and runs fantastically well and would not only be a great addition to any collection but also a bike that could be used on the open road. (Daytime only) This must be one of the best examples currently for sale anywhere. We are a family-owned company who pride ourselves on the quality of our Motorcycles and all of them are carefully chosen, handpicked enthusiast pre-owned examples that are always HPI Clear for your peace of mind. Common Issues to Watch For
The Bonneville T120 is generally a very reliable motorcycle, but like any used vehicle, a few things are worth checking:
- Electrical Gremlins: While rare, some owners have reported minor electrical niggles. Ensure all lights, indicators, and the display are functioning correctly.
- Chain and Sprockets: Regular maintenance is key. Inspect for excessive wear or a tight chain.
- Tyres: Check for even wear, especially if the bike has been ridden predominantly on one type of road surface.
- Service History: A full and consistent service history is the best indicator of a well-maintained bike. Look for evidence of regular oil changes and valve clearances being checked.
Running Costs
The T120 is relatively affordable to run for a modern classic motorcycle:
- Fuel Economy: Expect around 50-60 mpg, depending on riding style.
- Insurance: Group rates vary, but it generally falls into mid-range insurance brackets.
- Servicing: Triumph's service intervals are generally reasonable, with major services typically required every 10,000 miles. Costs will depend on your chosen garage.
- Tyres: A set of quality tyres will likely cost £250-£350 fitted.
Variants
While the core T120 model is excellent, Triumph has released several special editions and variations over the years, offering slightly different styling and features:
- T120 Bonneville (Standard): The benchmark model, offering classic style and modern technology.
- T120 Black: Features a more contemporary, all-black aesthetic with blacked-out components for a sleeker look.
- T120 Bud Ekins Limited Edition: A special tribute edition celebrating the legendary stunt rider, often featuring unique paintwork and detailing.
- T120 Gold Line: Special editions with distinctive hand-painted pinstripes and unique colour schemes.
When looking at used models, it's worth researching these variants as they can sometimes command a slight premium due to their exclusivity.
