Description
The bike specialists, trading standard award winners for the past 12 years. Bike ID: #9962 Ducati and AMG (the performance arm of Mercedes Benz) were beginning to work quite closely together with AMG sponsoring the Ducati MotoGP factory team and the two companies collaborating in many marketing promotions. The ultimate expression of this love was the flagship of the 2012 Ducati Diavel model range, the Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition.
The model was a tribute to the AMG luxury-sport brand and was intended (according the release at the time) for passionate connoisseurs of technology, engineering detail and exclusive style. This is the ultra rare Ducati Diavel AMG special edition. As many will know came with AMG exhaust, ecu, AMG wheels, seat, full carbon, special edition paint and numerous AMG badges throughout.
Every engine had its Desmodromic cam-timing set by hand and authenticated with the name of the engine technician engraved on the left-side engine casing. Further underlining the model's exclusivity, each motorcycle had a numbered plaque on the fuel tank. The reason these are now rocketing in value is that halfway through their production, Audi bought Ducati and instantly stopped production, making this an Audi owned product with a Mercedes AMG logo, totally unique.
Our example is number 664 and has covered just 75 miles and comes complete with the standard exhaust as well as the fitted AMG system, fly screen and Garmin Sat Nav system. The package also includes a AMG private registration number plate. The bike has had some very tasteful extras added such as carbon hugger, heat shield, chain guard etc, all of which are Ducati Performance parts.
The levers are Ducati folding performance levers. Any parts added to the bike are Ducati Performance parts which add to the bikes authenticity. We are a family-owned company who pride ourselves on the quality of our Motorcycles and all of them are carefully chosen, handpicked enthusiast pre-owned examples that are always HPI Clear for your peace of mind.
We offer all the usual used Motorcycle Dealer facilities such as Low-rate finance and extended warranties and operate a no pressure environment where you can relax and enjoy good old-fashioned service with a smile. We have just upgraded our Indoor Showroom where you can see Motorcycles you sometimes can only dream of seeing and sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves when we get certain bikes in as we would like to keep them all! We cater for very specialist tastes and can usually source rare and coveted bikes that we do not have in stock and have lots of contacts throughout the world.

What to Look For When Buying Used
- Service History: Ducati's Desmodromic valve service is crucial and costly. Ensure all "Desmo" services (typically every 15,000 miles or 24,000 km) have been completed by a Ducati specialist, with stamps and receipts. Major services for the 1198cc models are around £800-£1200, while the DVT models have longer intervals but can still be pricey.
- Electrics: Early Diavels could suffer from finicky electronics, especially with the keyless ignition. Check for error lights and ensure all modes (Urban, Touring, Sport) function correctly.
- Clutch Slave Cylinder: A common point of failure, leading to a loss of clutch pressure. Check for sticky levers or difficulty selecting gears.
- Tyre Wear: The Diavel's powerful engine and wide rear tyre (240/45-17) mean it goes through rear tyres quickly. Factor in replacement costs (£200+) if the current one is worn.
- Corrosion: Inspect fasteners, engine casings, and exhaust for signs of corrosion, especially on bikes kept outdoors or ridden in winter.
- Suspension: Check for weeping fork seals and ensure the rear shock operates smoothly. Aftermarket units are common but budget for a rebuild or replacement if faulty.
Running Costs & Insurance
- Insurance Group: Ducati Diavels typically fall into Group 16 or 17 (out of 17) for motorcycles, reflecting their power and value. Expect premiums to be higher, especially for younger riders.
- Fuel Economy: Expect an average of 35-45 MPG (miles per gallon) depending on riding style and model. The larger 1262cc engine can be thirstier.
- Servicing Costs: Beyond the major Desmo service, minor services (oil, filters) are typically £200-£400. Brake fluid and coolant changes are also key.
- ULEZ Compliant: All Ducati Diavel models sold in the UK are Euro 3 compliant at a minimum (later models are Euro 4/5), making them compliant with ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) and similar clean air zone regulations across the UK.
Is the Ducati Diavel Right For You?
The Ducati Diavel is perfect for riders who want:
- Unique Styling: Aggressive, muscular, and undeniably different.
- Thrill-Factor: Potent performance from the L-Twin engine with strong acceleration.
- Comfortable Cruising: A relatively relaxed riding position for a sport-oriented bike.
- Exclusivity: It stands out from the crowd.
Alternatives to consider: If the Diavel doesn't quite fit, look at the Harley-Davidson Fat Bob, Triumph Rocket 3, Yamaha VMAX, or even the Aprilia Tuono V4 for a more super-naked experience.
