Description
Absolutely stunning low mileage 3 owner from new car. These Toyota Mk1 MR2's are becoming rare and sought after, and this particular example has been cherished throughout its life. With just 3 owners from new and the last one owning the car since 1994 until present day, this car really needs to be seen to be believed.
Finished in colour code 043 Toyota Super White lll the paintwork presents really well and looks to be largely original with only very minor blemishes consistent with age. The correct period alloys have been refurbed to factory finish and are wrapped in new tyres due to age of the old ones. The car still wears its original strip kit from new also.
Upon opening the door, you are greeted by the sports cloth interior which is again in fantastic condition as are the carpets and door cards. Everything is still factory fresh and working with no modifications. The spare wheel and tool kit has never been used.
The mileage of 65713 miles is backed up by 8 service stamps plus 2 more service receipts, the last one being in June 2023 @ 65542 miles when the car underwent light mechanical remedial works after a period of being in storage due to overseas working since 2004, this included a new cambelt being fitted and new fuel tank, sender unit and pump, along with injectors being cleaned and tested. The result is a perfect running and driving car. We are also in receipt of a number of old MOT certificates to clarify the mileage.
The car comes with a book pack containing handbook, service book, dealer directory and fuel information leaflet, along with 3 keys. Viewing is highly recommended of this much sought after sports car.

Typical Price Range
All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.
- Pre-2000 (Mk1 & Mk2): £5,000 – £12,000 — At this price, you'll find a good selection of Mk1 (AW11) and Mk2 (SW20) models, with the lower end representing solid runners and the higher end for well-maintained or lightly restored examples.
- 2000–2004 (Early Mk3): £3,500 – £7,500 — This range covers early Mk3 (ZZW30) Roadsters, often pre-facelift, offering modern roadster fun with potential for higher mileage or minor cosmetic imperfections.
- 2005–2007 (Late Mk3): £6,000 – £10,000 — For the later, facelifted Mk3 models, you'll generally find lower mileage, improved specifications, and better overall condition, including the revised 1.8-litre engine.
Common Issues to Check
- Rust: Particularly on Mk1 and Mk2 models, check wheel arches, sills, and subframes, as corrosion can be a significant issue.
- Oil Consumption (Mk3 pre-facelift): Early ZZW30 models (up to 2003) can suffer from excessive oil consumption due to piston ring issues; always check service history and dipstick levels.
- Suspension Components: Worn bushes, anti-roll bar drop links, and tired shock absorbers can affect handling; listen for knocks and check for uneven tyre wear.
- Soft-top Condition (Mk3): Inspect the fabric roof for tears, leaks, and clear rear plastic window degradation, as replacements can be costly.
- Brakes and Callipers: Being a sports car, brakes can be worked hard; check for warped discs, seized callipers, and uneven pad wear.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 30-40 mpg (varies significantly by generation and driving style, Mk3 generally most economical).
- Insurance Group: Groups 25-35 (approx.)
- Servicing: Generally affordable for routine maintenance due to Toyota's reliability and readily available parts; specialist labour may be required for complex issues.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- Mk1 (AW11) 1.6: The original 'mid-ship runabout 2-seater', offering a pure, unfiltered driving experience with pop-up headlights and classic 80s charm, ideal for purists or collectors.
- Mk2 (SW20) GT / GT-T: Known as the 'baby Ferrari' for its looks, the Mk2 offers more power and presence; the naturally aspirated GT is common in the UK, while GT-T (turbo) versions are powerful JDM imports for performance seekers.
- Mk3 (ZZW30) 1.8 VVT-i Roadster: A lighter, more agile open-top experience with a modern engine and improved ergonomics, perfect for those seeking a fun, reliable modern roadster for sunny B-road blasts.
- Mk3 (ZZW30) Facelift (2003 onwards): These models address earlier engine oil consumption issues and feature subtle styling updates and improved handling characteristics, making them a more refined and robust choice.
