Description
The bike specialists, trading standard award winners. Bike ID: #10671 We are proud to offer for sale our stunning 1951 Vincent Comet 500. This iconic classic piece of British history was designed and built at the Vincent works in Great North Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England.
This UK example with original engine and frame is in concurs condition and represents a great opportunity to own an appreciating classic that would be the jewel in the crown of any serious collection. The bike has had only 3 owners from when first registered new in the UK in January 1951. The history of the bike is fully documented with the original owner having held the bike in his possession from January 1951 until his estate sold the bike back to Vincent Motorcycles in September 2015.
Whilst back at Vincent a major restoration was undertaken at a cost of approx. £11,000 and over 365 man hours. (Fully documented and certified). The bike was then sold in late 2015 to its most recent owner. Included in the package are old registration documents including the 1951 original, old MOT's, invoices and the all important certificate of authenticity verifying the bikes age and details.
Also included are an original riders handbook and original 1950's documents and information. The bike shows just 1 miles since the full restoration was carried out. This really is a great opportunity to own a British classic that you would struggle to find anywhere with such low ownership and provenance.

Typical Price Range
All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

Common Issues to Check
- Electrical Gremlins: Some owners have reported occasional minor electrical issues, so check all dashboard warnings, infotainment functions, and ancillary systems.
- Roof Mechanism Wear: For convertible models, inspect the condition and operation of the folding roof for smooth articulation and any signs of leaks or fraying.
- Suspension Component Wear: Listen for any knocking or creaking noises over bumps, as bushes or dampers can wear, particularly on models driven enthusiastically.
- Brake Pad and Disc Condition: High-performance brakes can wear quickly if the car has been driven hard, so check for adequate pad depth and disc lipping.
- Infotainment System Glitches: Ensure the touchscreen is responsive, and all connectivity features (Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) function correctly.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 30 – 40 mpg (depending on engine and driving style)
- Insurance Group: 30 – 40 (reflecting its status as a premium sports car)
- Servicing: Generally moderate, with recommended annual services or every 10,000 miles. Specialist independent garages can offer more competitive pricing than main dealers.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- Comet Pure: This entry-level model offers a stripped-back, purist driving experience, often with a manual gearbox. It's ideal for those who prioritise an unadulterated connection with the road.
- Comet GT: Designed for longer journeys, the GT variant typically features more comfortable suspension, premium leather upholstery, and advanced infotainment. Perfect for grand touring.
- Comet S: Stepping up the performance, the 'S' trim includes sportier suspension, upgraded brakes, and often a more aggressive exhaust note. This is the choice for drivers who frequent B-roads or track days.
- Comet Blackbird: The top-tier performance model, the Blackbird boasts increased power, unique aerodynamic enhancements, and bespoke interior finishes. It’s for enthusiasts demanding the ultimate Comet experience.
