2014 DUCATI 899 PANIGALE 899

The 899 replaced the 848 and MCN rated it a full 5 out of 5 overall. The new Superquadro V-twin produces 148bhp and 73lb-ft, 8bhp more than the old 848, and it is a stressed member forming part of the aluminium monocoque construction. The power spread is the standout.

It is not peaky like the 1198, pulling hard from 6,000rpm all the way through to the 10,700rpm redline. The fully adjustable Showa 43BPF forks and fully adjustable Sachs rear have a plush feel that works properly on the road as well as the track, which is rare on a bike this focused. Twin 320mm Brembo discs handle the stopping.

The electronics package is comprehensive and all standard. Ducati's DTC traction control carried over from the 1198, cornering-capable ABS, EBC engine brake control to stop the rear locking under hard downshifts, three riding modes in Race, Sport and Wet, and a quickshifter. For a 2014 sports bike that is a serious kit list.

Build quality is what you expect from Ducati, with Showa, Sachs and Brembo components throughout and a high standard of finish. The old reliability reputation is long gone and service intervals are far longer than they used to be. This example we previously supplied before to a local customer and has been maintained in his ownership by our workshop.
