Description

The bike specialists, trading standard award winners. Bike: ID#10409 Here we offer the chance to own a stunning piece of Italian exotica. Our bike is the super rare Bimota SB8K Santa Monica and unique by virtue of the fact that it is has had just one owner from new and is a genuine UK example.

Our 2005 example has covered just 3,000 miles and is supplied the original riders handbook, service book, a multitude of old MOT certificates, receipts and the original showroom brochure. The SB8 platform became famous after Anthony Gobert's World Superbike win at Phillip Island and production numbers were extremely limited with the Santamonica production estimated at around just 75 examples worldwide making it one of the rarest Italian superbikes of its era. The SB8K boasted may attributes including being hand-built by Bimota famous for exotic chassis engineering and craftsmanship.

The SB range was powered by a 996cc Suzuki TL1000R-derived V-twin engine with around 140 horsepower a true lightweight, aggressive, analogue superbike, more like a race bike than a road bike. Designed with a huge focus on performance and weight reduction featuring carbon fibre bodywork, Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes and billeted aluminium components throughout. This carbon masterpiece really does need to be seen to be fully appreciated, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or wish to reserve the Bimota.

We can offer full finance packages and also arrange delivery both UK and Worldwide. We are a family-owned company that prides itself on the quality of our Motorcycles and all of them are carefully chosen, handpicked enthusiast pre-owned examples that are always HPI Clear for your peace of mind. We offer all the usual used Motorcycle Dealer facilities such as Low-rate finance and extended warranties and operate a no-pressure environment where you can relax and enjoy good old-fashioned service with a smile.

We have just upgraded our Indoor Showroom where you can see Motorcycles you sometimes can only dream of seeing and sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves when we get certain bikes in as we would like to keep them all! We cater for very specialist tastes and can usually source rare and coveted bikes that we do not have in stock and have lots of contacts throughout the world.

About the Bimota Sb8

The Bimota SB8 is an exquisitely rare and high-performance Italian sportbike, marrying Bimota's bespoke chassis engineering with the potent Suzuki TL1000R V-twin engine. Renowned for its distinctive carbon fibre bodywork and aggressive styling, the SB8 appeals to serious collectors, track enthusiasts, and those seeking an exotic two-wheeled machine with significant presence and exclusivity in the UK market.

Why Buy a Used Bimota Sb8?

  • Exclusivity & Rarity: With very limited production numbers, owning an SB8 means possessing a truly unique and often hand-built motorcycle.
  • Exceptional Performance: The powerful Suzuki TL1000R engine combined with Bimota's lightweight, race-bred chassis delivers exhilarating acceleration and razor-sharp handling.
  • Iconic Design & Engineering: Featuring radical styling and advanced materials like carbon fibre, the SB8 is a testament to Italian design flair and engineering prowess.
  • Potential Investment: Due to its rarity and legendary status, well-maintained SB8 models have shown potential for appreciation amongst collectors.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 2000–2003 (Pristine, Low Mileage): £18,000 – £25,000 — These are often collector-grade bikes, immaculate examples with minimal use, likely to be displayed rather than ridden extensively.
  • 2000–2003 (Good Condition, Moderate Mileage): £12,000 – £18,000 — Well-maintained and fully functional bikes that may have seen some road use, offering a balance of rideability and collectibility.
  • 2000–2003 (Project/Needs Work): £8,000 – £12,000 — Bikes requiring significant mechanical or cosmetic restoration, suitable for enthusiasts looking for a rewarding project.

Common Issues to Check

  • Engine Longevity & Maintenance: While the Suzuki TL1000R engine is robust, check for proper service history, particularly cam chain tensioners and clutch slave cylinder issues common to the original donor engine.
  • Age-Related Electrical Gremlins: Inspect wiring harnesses, connectors, and sensors for deterioration or intermittent faults, which can be challenging to diagnose on older, complex bikes.
  • Bimota-Specific Component Availability: Be aware that unique Bimota parts, especially bodywork, bespoke suspension linkages, or specific frame components, can be extremely rare and expensive to source.
  • Fuel System Condition: Check fuel lines, injectors, and the fuel pump for age-related wear, blockages, or leaks, especially if the bike has been stored for extended periods.
  • Brake & Suspension Overhaul: Given the bike's age and performance capabilities, a thorough inspection of brake callipers, master cylinders, lines, and a potential suspension service (forks and shock) is advisable.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: 30–40 mpg (due to its high-performance V-twin engine and intended use).
  • Insurance Group: Group 17 (out of 17, reflecting its high value, performance, and rarity).
  • Servicing: Requires specialist knowledge and bespoke parts, making routine maintenance and unexpected repairs significantly more expensive than mass-produced motorcycles.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • SB8R: The standard model, though “standard” is a loose term for Bimota. It offers the core SB8 experience with its unique chassis and TL1000R engine, an excellent choice for a performance enthusiast or collector.
  • SB8R Special: Featuring even more carbon fibre components for reduced weight and often unique colour schemes, this variant is for those seeking extra exclusivity and a slight performance edge.
  • SB8K Gobert: A limited edition named after World Superbike rider Anthony Gobert, often with a slightly more powerful engine tune and distinctive livery, appealing to collectors seeking a true homologation special.
