Description

Out of long term storage for approx 6 years and now recommissioned with afew bits to go , but this is a lovely condition car that had a body off restoration in 2012 with very little mileage since . The restoration included a new interior in TMI vinyl grey and full respray in Olive Grey - Adjustable front supension - Lowered rear suspension (standard shocks) - 3 point rear seatbelts - welding including 1 heater channel, floor, arches, spare wheel well, door posts etc - Engine top end was stripped, clean and new gaskets and distributor - Alternator fitted vs Dynamo - New chrome trim and brightwork - Headlining is good The car has a reasonable history file with mostly parts invoice There is a JBL sound system, radio/ CD/ MP3 with sub base, amp, coaxal speakers which may not appeal to all but it has been tastefully done

About the Volkswagen Beetle

The Volkswagen Beetle is a modern icon, reviving the spirit and distinctive styling of the original 'people's car' with contemporary German engineering. Available as a hatchback or a convertible, it appeals strongly to buyers seeking a car with immense character, unique retro aesthetics, and Volkswagen's renowned build quality. In the UK, it's cherished for its distinctive road presence and often chosen by those who value style over ultimate practicality.

Why Buy a Used Volkswagen Beetle?

  • Unique Design & Character: Own a car that truly stands out from the crowd with its unmistakable retro styling, often more accessible on the used market.
  • Volkswagen Build Quality: Benefit from the solid engineering, comfortable interiors, and reliable performance synonymous with the VW brand.
  • Good Residuals: Beetles tend to hold their value well compared to some competitors, making it a sound investment.
  • Engaging Drive: Despite its retro looks, the modern Beetle offers a confident and enjoyable driving experience, particularly with the more potent engine options.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 2011–2014: £5,000 – £8,000 — At this price point, you'll find earlier models with higher mileage, offering an affordable entry into Beetle ownership.
  • 2015–2017: £8,000 – £12,000 — These mid-life models often come with improved infotainment and a good balance of age, mileage, and features.
  • 2018–2019: £12,000 – £18,000 — For newer examples with lower mileage and potentially higher specifications, representing the best of the final production years.

Common Issues to Check

  • DSG Gearbox Issues: For automatic models, ensure smooth gear changes and no hesitations, as DSG units can be costly to repair if neglected.
  • Electrical Faults: Check all dashboard lights, infotainment, and electric windows for proper operation, as minor electrical glitches can occur.
  • Suspension Wear: Listen for knocks or creaks from the suspension, particularly over bumps, indicating worn bushes or shock absorbers.
  • Convertible Roof Mechanism: On Cabriolet models, thoroughly test the roof operation for smooth action, leaks, and any unusual noises.
  • Interior Trim Quality: Inspect for signs of wear and tear on door cards, seats, and dashboard, especially around common contact points.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: Generally between 40-55 mpg for petrol models, with diesel variants achieving higher figures.
  • Insurance Group: Typically ranges from Group 10 to Group 25, depending on the engine size and trim level.
  • Servicing: Moderately priced, with a choice of official VW service centres or more affordable independent specialists across the UK.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • 1.2 TSI (105PS): Ideal for city driving and shorter journeys, offering good fuel economy and sufficient power for everyday use.
  • 1.4 TSI (150PS): A popular choice for a balance of performance and economy, suitable for mixed driving and longer trips.
  • 2.0 TDI (110PS/150PS): Best for high-mileage drivers, providing excellent fuel efficiency and strong torque for motorway cruising.
  • R-Line: For those seeking a sportier look and feel, featuring more aggressive styling, larger wheels, and sport suspension.
  • Cabriolet: Perfect for enjoying the British summer, offering the same charm as the coupe but with the added thrill of open-top motoring.
