2013 KIA CARENS 1.7 Crdi Ecodynamics 2

The Kia Carens is a highly practical and often overlooked compact MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) that was available in the UK until 2018. Renowned for its versatile interior, comfortable ride, and excellent value for money, it primarily appeals to families seeking a reliable and spacious 7-seater without the bulk of a large SUV. In the UK market, the Carens earned a reputation as a sensible, dependable, and well-equipped family car that simply gets the job done.

Why Buy a Used Kia Carens?

• Affordability: Represents significant value compared to newer SUVs, offering excellent practicality for a lower price point in the used market.
• Versatile Interior: Many models feature a flexible 7-seat configuration with easily foldable rear seats, making it adaptable for both passengers and cargo.
• Proven Reliability: Benefiting from Kia's strong reputation for dependability, the Carens is known for its robust build quality and often has remaining manufacturer warranty on newer used models.
• Family-Friendly Features: Equipped with numerous thoughtful touches like ample storage, easy access, and a comfortable ride, making it ideal for daily family use and longer trips.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

• 2013–2015: £4,500 – £7,500 — These early third-generation models offer great entry-level family transport with solid features.
• 2015–2017: £7,000 – £10,500 — Mid-life facelift models often come with improved infotainment and refined styling.
• 2017–2018: £9,500 – £13,500 — Later, lower-mileage examples offer the best specification and potentially remaining Kia warranty.

Common Issues to Check

• Front Suspension Wear: Listen for knocks or creaks from the front suspension, indicating worn bushes or linkages, especially on older, higher-mileage examples.
• Brake Discs and Pads: Due to its family car nature and potential for carrying weight, brakes can wear quicker; check for shuddering under braking or excessive wear.
• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) on Diesels: If predominantly used for short city drives, the DPF on 1.7 CRDi models can clog; check for warning lights or reduced performance.
• Infotainment System Glitches: Test the touchscreen and all connectivity features (Bluetooth, USB) for responsiveness and any freezing issues.
• Interior Trim Wear: As a family car, inspect seats, door cards, and boot area for excessive wear, tears, or broken plastics.

Running Costs

• Fuel Economy: Expect around 40-45 mpg for the 1.6 GDI petrol and 50-60 mpg for the 1.7 CRDi diesel.
• Insurance Group: Typically falls within Group 12 to 20, making it relatively affordable for a family car.
• Servicing: Generally competitive, with fixed-price service plans often available through Kia dealers, and independent garages are well-versed with the mechanics.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

• 1.7 CRDi Diesel: Ideal for those covering higher mileages or requiring more torque for carrying passengers and luggage, offering excellent fuel economy on longer runs.
• 1.6 GDI Petrol: A smoother and quieter option, better suited for lower mileage drivers or those predominantly driving in urban areas.
• '2' / 'SR7' Trim: Provides a great balance of essential features like air conditioning, Bluetooth, and alloy wheels, representing excellent value for money.
• '3' / '4' Trim: For buyers seeking more luxuries, these higher specifications often include satellite navigation, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and advanced safety features.
