Description

Arriving with us shortly at RFH Classics we have this beautiful 1999 (T) Bentley Arnage Green Label 4.4 V8 Automatic finished in the elegant Silver Pearl with contrasting Parchment Leather upholstery and Royal Blue carpeting. This is a particularly attractive and exceptionally well-presented example of Bentley's flagship luxury saloon, and one that we know very well, having had the pleasure of supplying now to two of its previous owners over the past 12 years. Having covered approximately 78,223 miles, this Arnage has clearly been cherished throughout its recent ownership, with a lot of its maintenance previously being entrusted to a local Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist.

It also benefits from an extensive history folder containing details of maintenance undertaken over the years, together with MOT records dating back to 2006. Introduced in 1998, the Arnage represented a new chapter for Bentley, combining the marque's traditional hand-built craftsmanship with more modern engineering. The early Green Label models were powered by the BMW-derived 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing approximately 354 bhp, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission.

These earlier cars offer an appealing combination of effortless performance, refinement and traditional Bentley luxury. The interior of this particular example is especially impressive, with its rarely encountered Parchment Leather upholstery presenting beautifully. The extensive wood veneers were professionally refurbished shortly after we originally supplied the car and have remained in exceptional condition.

The lighter interior, complemented by the optional Electric Sunroof, creates a wonderfully spacious and inviting cabin. Other notable features include electrically adjustable and heated front seats, Climate Air Conditioning, Privacy Glass and the attractive 18-inch Le Mans-style alloy wheels. The Electric Sunroof has also undergone a comprehensive overhaul to address the corrosion issues sometimes associated with these cars, while a permanently installed battery maintenance charger provides a useful addition for occasional use.

Having previously supplied this Bentley, we are particularly pleased to be welcoming it back into our showroom. Examples with this combination of presentation, specification, history and known long-term ownership are becoming increasingly appealing. Once with us the car will undergo our initial preparation and then a fresh set of photographs and video will be undertaken but in the meantime we welcome early enquiries from anyone interested in this rather special British luxury saloon.

The car will be supplied with a fresh MOT, our 3-month warranty and a clear vehicle history certificate. We recommend the use of premium unleaded E5 fuel in our classic vehicles. RFH Classics are Bedfordshire's largest independent classic vehicle dealer, with over 35 years experience supplying quality vehicles to customers throughout the UK.

Unable to visit us? UK delivery is available and we can also assist with export where required. Visitors are always welcome to our Bedfordshire showroom, although we kindly ask that you call us first as we can occasionally be off-site collecting or delivering vehicles.

About the BENTLEY ARNAGE

The Bentley Arnage, produced from 1998 to 2009, represents an era of unparalleled British luxury and hand-built craftsmanship. As a full-size luxury saloon, it epitomises opulence, comfort, and a commanding road presence. Catering to discerning buyers who appreciate heritage and exclusivity, the Arnage holds a unique position in the UK used car market, offering a slice of automotive grandeur for those seeking a prestigious, albeit costly to run, classic luxury vehicle.

Why Buy a Used Bentley Arnage?

  • Significant Depreciation Savings: As a luxury car that has depreciated considerably, a used Arnage offers exceptional value for money compared to its original list price, making high-end luxury more accessible.
  • Timeless British Design: The Arnage boasts a distinctive, elegant design that has aged gracefully, projecting an aura of classic sophistication and prestige wherever it goes.
  • Unparalleled Comfort and Luxury: Step inside, and you're enveloped in hand-stitched leather, polished wood veneers, and deep pile carpets, providing an incredibly comfortable and refined driving or chauffeured experience.
  • Unique Driving Experience: With its powerful engines, particularly the iconic 6.75-litre V8, the Arnage delivers immense torque and a majestic, effortless driving character unmatched by most modern luxury cars.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 1998–2002 (Green Label/Early Red Label): £20,000 – £35,000 — At this price point, you can find earlier models, often with higher mileage or requiring some mechanical attention, representing an entry into Bentley ownership.
  • 2003–2006 (Red Label/R/T): £35,000 – £55,000 — These mid-period cars offer a better balance of condition, specification, and improvements, often with the more desirable 6.75-litre engine and fewer initial issues.
  • 2007–2009 (R/T/RL/Final Series): £55,000 – £85,000+ — The higher end caters to later, low-mileage examples, including the powerful T, the opulent RL, and the collectible Final Series, often in pristine condition.

Common Issues to Check

  • Complex Electrical Systems: Given the age and sophistication, check all warning lights, infotainment systems, windows, and central locking for proper operation, as repairs can be costly.
  • Hydraulic Suspension and Braking System: Listen for any unusual noises from the hydraulic pump, check for leaks around the struts, and ensure the ride height is level and comfortable.
  • Engine Oil Leaks: The 6.75-litre V8, in particular, can be prone to oil leaks from rocker covers, sumps, and seals, which can be an expensive fix.
  • Automatic Gearbox Issues: Test for smooth gear changes, especially under load; any hesitation, clunking, or delayed engagement could signal problems with the ZF gearbox.
  • Interior Wear and Tear: Inspect leather upholstery for cracks, wood veneers for delamination, and ensure all interior electronics (e.g., seat adjustments, climate control) are fully functional.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: 10-15 mpg (expect single digits in urban driving from the 6.75L V8 models).
  • Insurance Group: 50 (the highest possible, reflecting its value and performance).
  • Servicing: Extremely expensive, requiring specialist Bentley knowledge. Budget for several thousands per year, even with independent specialists; main dealer servicing will be significantly more.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • Arnage Red Label: This is arguably the most common and popular choice, featuring the traditional 6.75-litre Rolls-Royce/Bentley V8 engine, offering immense torque and a classic Bentley feel.
  • Arnage T: Aimed at those desiring a sportier drive, the T variant boasts a more powerful, twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V8, firmer suspension, and a slightly more aggressive aesthetic.
  • Arnage R: Balancing performance with luxury, the R offers the powerful 6.75-litre V8 in a slightly softer tune than the T, focusing more on passenger comfort and traditional Bentley refinement.
  • Arnage RL: The long-wheelbase version, the RL prioritises rear passenger space and comfort, making it the ultimate chauffeur-driven Bentley Arnage, often specified with lavish rear amenities.
