Description
Finance available! Here at RX motors, we are proud to present our super rare 1098R in Rosso red having covered only 1, 174 miles. With it's beautiful design this example boasts flawless paintwork and really is a credit to its previous owner.
The 1098R was the last of the "proper" Ducati homologation specials being powered by the 1198 Ducati engine. These bikes produce a massive 180bhp using the race kit parts and full Termignoni exhausts , The instrumentation is a digital Moto GP derived unit and the suspension is Ohlins TTXR single rear shock with fully adjustable Ohlins to the front. The 1098R has true competition level traction control, Marelli electronic fuel injection, forged light alloy Marchesini wheels and a dry multiplate clutch.
The ECU is reconfigured and mapped to suit the racing exhaust. This Ducati would take pride of place in any serious collection.

Common Issues to Check
- Electrical System: Inspect wiring looms, especially around the headstock and rear subframe, for rubbing or corrosion, and check for reliable charging system operation (rectifier/regulator).
- Clutch Slave Cylinder: Leaking clutch slave cylinders are a known issue; check for fluid seepage and ensure the clutch action is smooth and consistent.
- Exhaust Valve/Servo Motor: Listen for unusual noises from the exhaust valve and check for any 'EXVL' error codes on the dash, indicating a potential servo motor issue.
- Fairing Condition: Carefully inspect all fairing panels for cracks, especially around mounting points, as they can be brittle and expensive to replace.
- Service History (Desmo Service): Crucially, verify the motorcycle has a documented history of its costly Desmodromic valve services, essential for engine longevity and performance.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 30–40 mpg (highly dependent on riding style)
- Insurance Group: 17 (out of 17 for bikes)
- Servicing: Ducati Desmo services are notoriously expensive, typically required every 15,000 miles or 5 years, while interim services are needed annually.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- Ducati 1098: The standard model offers immense performance and the full Ducati superbike experience at a more accessible price point, perfect for serious road riders.
- Ducati 1098 S: Upgrades to Ohlins suspension and lighter Marchesini wheels significantly enhance handling and track capability, making it ideal for those who demand sharper dynamics.
- Ducati 1098 R: This homologation special features a larger 1198cc engine, even higher-spec Ohlins suspension, and race-derived components, perfect for collectors or ultimate track performance enthusiasts.
